Famous Pinoy Urban Legends That Kept People Wondering, " Is This Really True?"

•  Hitler’s Father is Jose Rizal

Theories emerged that Adolf Hitler was conceived either in 1887 when Rizal traveled through towns near the Austrian border or 1888 when he was in London. During such time, he was assumed to have an affair with a German lady who was the mother of the ruthless dictator.

• “My Way” Curse. 

Filipinos love singing. Whether they are in tune or not, it does not matter, as long as they have the microphone, they will sing their way to reach that high note. Story has it that people who sing Frank Sinatra’s “My Way” die afterwards. 

• Mermaid in the Philippines

People believed that floods are caused by mermaids (aka sirena) being held captive. In Pangasinan, the folks think that the rivers criss-crossing  Dagupan were a mermaid’s tears. One story in Angono was said to have a sighting of a mermaid with long hair, resting on a rock, attracting fishermen and swimmers with her singing, then eventually drowning them.

There was even an email that circulated years ago of a corpse of a merman found along the shores of Sorsogon. (see image above). It was then reported as hoax.

• White Lady in Balete Drive

The Balete tree is said to be the dwelling place of ghosts and other imaginary creatures. Based on stories by other people, the White Lady has a very long hair. She wears a white gown with blood stains. Others say her face is covered with blood.

• Smiling Horse in Red Horse Beer

There are 2 kinds of Red Horse Beer in the market. One has a serious horse and the other possess a smiling horse. This story is not a big urban legend deal. But people who drink this say the bottle with the happy horse tastes stronger and “mas malakas ang sipa” than the other one.

• Siopao is Made Up of Cat’s Meat

According to stories, some vendors use cat meat as the main ingredient of their siopao. This started when someone saw a restaurant in Quiapo throwing away body parts of cats at the back. Some say they saw them cooking the feline creatures.

• Bongbong Marcos is actually a Clone??

Rumor has it that  Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr, the Senator we see today, is not the  real Bongbong which is known to be the only son of the late President Ferdinand E. Marcos and First Lady Imelda Marcos.  According to stories, the person we are seeing today in the senate is a “clone” because the real Bongbong is already dead. Different versions of the account surfaced. One tells that he has been stabbed by his classmate and the body was never returned in the Philippines. Next says he got killed in a road accident, and the last claims he was kidnapped and killed by rebel armies in Mindanao. The story goes on that the First Lady convinced her nephew to  undergo surgery and replace Bongbong’s part in the family.

• Blood of Children in San Juanico Bridge

The San Juanico Bridge, considered as the longest bridge in the country, was built with children’s blood, particularly street children including babies. The story started when the bridge was under construction and there has been reports of  kidnapping in Samar-Leyte areas. According to the people, the little helpless children were offered as sacrifice to gods by Imelda Marcos to strengthen the every structure of the bridge. The blood of the kids were said to have been mixed in the cement.

• President Ferdinand Marcos is Still Alive

Stories had been going around in the past years that President Ferdinand E. Marcos is still alive. That he walks among us like ordinary people but has undergone surgery to cover his face. Some also say that his corpse is not the real Ferdinand, but just a wax in human form.

• Half-Human, Half-Snake Creature in Robinsons Galleria

According to stories, a business tycoon and owner of Robinsons has a child which is a half-human and half-snake. The creature is fed with animal meat, but there came a time when it tasted a human meat and really loved it. To hide his identity, the plan of creating a shopping mall emerged. The girl’s fitting rooms where customized for his feeding. Spy cameras were installed and the floors  were remote-controlled. A number of beautiful ladies have been said to disappear.
